Correspondence, minutes, financial information, reports, and research files concerning the founding and operation of the Independent Voters of Illinois (IVI), which merged with the Independent Precinct Organization (IPO) and became known as IVI-IPO. Topics include good government initiatives at the state level and in Chicago; and extensive materials related to IVI's endorsement of candidates for political office, particularly Chicago and Cook County candidates for city, county, state, and U.S. Congress offices. The collection also includes some material on national issues and candidates distributed by the Americans for Democratic Actions, such as Adlai E. Stevenson's candidacy for governor of Illinois in 1948, and his campaign for President in 1956, and the 1948 Illinois senatorial campaign of Paul H. Douglas. Persons whose work is represented include IVI officers John Kearney, Leo A. Lerner, and Irving J. Rosenbloom. For Chicago offices, IVI often endorsed candidates campaigning outside the regular Democratic ward organizations although IVI-I endorsed some Democrats as well.
